Whether you sell information products or physical goods, you use a sales funnel. The only difference is the number of stages. You may have a 4-stage sales funnel or a 6- stage one, depending on your business and marketing strategy.

For example, if you sell coffee, your sales funnel starts when a potential customer sees the Starbucks brand and logo on a billboard or in a store window. They then go inside and buy a cup of coffee for the first time, but they also get a cookie because the store is having a “buy one, get one free” sale. The next day, they buy a cup of coffee from their favorite Starbucks, but this time they bring their friend along because the second purchase is cheaper.

You can apply the sales funnel model to everything from digital marketing to networking events. Using the right marketing channels and techniques allows you to reach your target audience at the right place and the right time.

For example, if your target audience is on the go, you can promote your product through mobile ads and social media. This way, the prospect can easily take action at any point in time.

Once a prospect has moved through the awareness stage and has shown interest in your product, it’s important to nurture them so they can take the necessary steps to convert into customers. This can be done through content marketing such as case studies, how-to videos, and product explainer videos. This can be supplemented with PPC ads, SEO, and social media promotion to increase the chances of conversion.

If you can convert a prospect to a paying customer, the last stage is to retain them so they will return again and again. This can be achieved by sending recurring emails containing valuable information, special offers, and promotional materials. Having a well-thought out plan for converting and nurturing prospects is critical to growing your business.

In order to build a sales funnel that is both effective and profitable, you need to have a clear picture of your prospect’s buyer journey. The more you know about your customer’s goals, pain points, needs, and aspirations, the better you can identify the right products and services to offer them.

To do this, it’s important to gather customer data, such as demographics, purchase history, and the reasons behind their purchase decisions. This information can then be used to create lookalike audiences that you can target with relevant messaging.
